Rare Sats
Rare sats (short for satoshis, the smallest unit of Bitcoin) are individual satoshis that have unique historical or structural significance. While most sats are indistinguishable, the Ordinals protocol allows satoshis to be numbered and tracked — giving collectors the ability to identify, value, and trade individual sats based on rarity.
Rare sats are introducing a collector’s economy to Bitcoin — blending historical preservation, art, and identity with hard money. Some are used as foundations for Ordinal inscriptions or even as premium NFT-like assets.
Collectors and builders are now hunting, tracking, and trading these special sats — giving new depth to Bitcoin as both a financial and cultural layer. Think of it like coin collecting for Bitcoin. Not all sats are created equal in the eyes of collectors.
Example Sentence: That satoshi came from block 840,000 — the fourth halving. It’s considered a Rare Sat and might be worth way more than its face value.
