Runes Protocol
The Runes Protocol is a new system for creating fungible tokens directly on the Bitcoin blockchain, introduced by Casey Rodarmor (creator of Ordinals). Unlike earlier attempts like BRC-20, which used text-based inscriptions that caused blockchain bloat, Runes was designed from the ground up to be clean, efficient, and UTXO-friendly — meaning it works more naturally with how Bitcoin is already structured.
Runes make it possible to mint and transfer Bitcoin-native tokens without relying on altcoins, sidechains, or Layer 2s.
